Our History

Stitch Design Ltd. was established in South London over 20 years ago as specialist suppliers of school uniform. We expanded rapidly and it was not long before we had outgrown what had initially felt like ample premises. We were lucky enough to identify a lovely location deep in the Hampshire countryside where a suitable size unit was in the process of being built. This allowed us to have enough say in the final layout to ensure it fully met our needs. We quickly settled in our new home and have been happy here ever since.

With our increased capacity we were able to actively expand our school business into other parts of the country. As well as Greater London we now supply schools throughout the Home Counties, Dorset & Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Worcester & the West Midlands and the latest addition to our family of representatives covers Chester, Liverpool & the North West, where new customers are already appreciating our friendly, personal service.

Moving to Hampshire also facilitated the opening of a Business & Leisure Division, specifically aimed at supplying the non-school sector. We adopt a ‘small enough to care, big enough to cope’ approach and now deal with businesses ranging from large national organisations to small local businesses, clubs and societies.

Our Business

Yes, we do supply an extensive range of good value, high quality embroidered and printed clothing to schools, businesses and clubs but our business really depends on our quality of service and forging excellent long-term relationships with both customers and suppliers.

Our Suppliers: Most of our supply comes from people we have been working with since the very first day. They understand their clothes and have grown alongside us to become the leading suppliers in the country. Over the years we have steadily added new, carefully chosen, suppliers to our portfolio allowing us to cater for the additional demands made by our ever broadening customer base. 80% of what we now sell is sourced direct from manufacturers allowing us to offer great value. We often find we can supply embroidered and printed clothing at a cheaper price than others might obtain undecorated clothing.

Our Processes: Over the years we have developed and refined our processes so we can quickly and easily take you from initial concept right through to finished garments: Once we fully understand your needs we will advise you on the perfect clothing and method of decoration for you, balancing style, practicality and, of course, cost. Meanwhile our in-house design team will liaise with you to ensure your badge or logo is modified, where necessary, and formatted so the final result precisely matches your initial vision.

Unlike many other companies we do not rely on contractors to decorate our staff or school uniforms. We have full embroidery, screen printing and transfer facilities on site so we can quickly create samples for your approval and ensure speedy completion of your final order, while being able to keep a close eye on the quality of all finished articles. See our Prices & Processes page for further details on the different options.

Our Services: We may have grown but our commitment to a friendly personal service remains at the forefront of everything we do. Order by phone, fax or email, or let us create a free Online Uniform Shop specifically for you where you, your employees or your school’s parents can place orders directly online. The Online Shop is supported by a new despatch centre allowing us to offer a comprehensive range of flexible services, individually tailored to match your precise needs, including stock storage, Direct To Parent school uniform service and next day delivery for staff uniforms. Whichever service you decide on you will always be able to rely on the support of our highly experienced team only a phone call away.

Our Flexibility: Our message to you is simple: You tell us what you want and we will find the best way of doing it for you, and our commitment to flexibility doesn’t just end there. Because we want your business for many years to come we will always be ready to respond to your changing needs, whether it’s a one-off design for a special promotion, a complete change of uniform or to upgrade to a new level of service. Whatever your demands we are confident no one is better placed to meet them, both now and in the future.

Our Ethics

At Stitch Design, we only offer items in the sure knowledge that they are produced to appropriate ethical and ecological standards. We receive guarantees from all our suppliers such as:

"In accordance with EU standards child labour is illegal and the factories used adhere to that mandate."
“Each and every one of our factories is fully compliant with all health, safety and child/labour regulations."

Additionally all of our suppliers must be able to demonstrate they operate to the Oeko-Tex ‘Standard 100’. This is an international certification system for textiles and clothing, covering all stages of production. It guarantees that anything supplied by us will not be harmful to you nor your child and has not been harmful to anyone involved in it’s manufacture:

"The Standard 100 tests for over 100 chemicals, such as pesticides, in all components of a garment including threads, buttons and yarns. In passing the Standard 100 test, garments achieve the same level of quality certification expected of all food stuffs in the UK". The aim is “ To produce textile products of all kinds that are safe from a human ecological point of view”.
